ACT members agree freedom of association annex for Turkey

ACT is an agreement between 19 global brands – including Asos, Bestseller, C&A, H&M, Inditex and Primark – and global union IndustriAll working for living wages for workers in the textile and garment supply chains. Marking what it calls a milestone in ACT’s process in Turkey, ACT has enacted Turkey’s Freedom of Association (FoA) Annex as an extension of ACT’s Memorandum of Understanding.

The FOA Annex contextualizes the global freedom of association commitments made by brands in the ACT MOU and is meant to reflect the unique industrial relations challenges faced by industry stakeholders and establish a clear, effective and results-oriented protocol to continue to support constructive and mature industrial relations in Turkey.

The annex was agreed between 17 ACT member brands sourcing from Turkey and IndustriAll, including its subsidiaries in Turkey. Reflecting international and national labor law which is also covered by the codes of conduct of all brands, it is an industrial relations agreement which covers all units in the supply chain of Turkish textile industries, clothing and leather producing for ACT member brands.

Christina Hajagos-Clausen, Textile and Garment Industry Director at IndustriAll Global Union, said: “This agreement reflects the strong commitment of ACT members to building a sustainable, stable and fair industry in Turkey. IndustriAll and our Turkish subsidiaries Deriteks Sendikası, Disk Tekstil Iscileri Sendikasi, Öz Iklip-Iz and Teksif and look forward to working closely with ACT member brands and their suppliers now that the appendix is enacted.
