Actors’ Equity Association endorses Kevin Cahill for Assembly District 103

The Actors’ Equity Association announced that the National Board of Equity had voted in favor of Kevin Cahill’s campaign for Assembly. Cahill represents the 103rd Assembly District in Albany.

“During the pandemic, so many members of Equity have seen their insurance jeopardized because the industry has shut down and they have lost their jobs,” said Al Vincent, Jr., executive director of the Actors’ Equity Association. “Kevin Cahill was a champion for arts workers whose health care was at risk, fighting to renew and expand the COBRA grant for arts workers in New York City. He will help us fight to strengthen state arts programs so that when employers get arts subsidies from the state, arts workers receive fair pay and safe working conditions. It is a recognized ally of arts workers.

Equity’s public policy priorities include defending and protecting the right to collective bargaining, a prevailing wage in the arts, racial justice, a strong minimum wage, more federal and state funding for the arts, prevention of gun violence, universal federal health care, tax fairness, and LGBTQ rights non-discrimination protections.

THE ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION, founded in 1913, is the American union representing more than 51,000 professional actors and managers. Equity strives to advance the careers of its members by negotiating salaries, improving working conditions and offering a wide range of benefits (including health and retirement).
