Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies Holds 75th Anniversary Convention

The AAAS held its 75th annual conference February 3-5 at the River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton.

The event was presented by Servus Credit Union, attracting 220 delegates from 70 agricultural societies across the province as well as guests from agricultural societies in Ontario and Manitoba and CAFÉ President Amanda Frigon.

“We opened the weekend on Friday with our Ministers/MP Forum. The Honorable Nate Horner, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development, MP Mark Smith, was on hand to answer questions from our delegates. We opened the weekend with our keynote speaker Dr. Lisa Belanger talking about Rebuilding Connection & Community and Doug Griffiths of 13 Ways was our closing keynote talking about Everything is About to Change – Adapt or Die,” said writes the association in a press release.

During the awards ceremony, were presented:

  • Scholarships to Alyson Blain; Zachery Farr, Amanda Hardman and Barrt Maayen
  • The 2022 Honor Roll recipients were Ellen Bonde of the Rocky Mountain House Ag Society and Brenda Moon of the Airdrie Ag Society
  • The Award of Merit went to Chris Sisson of Superior Tent Rentals
  • The outstanding supporter of agriculture was Charles Newell of the Radway Ag Society.
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development presented innovation awards to Calmar and Rocky Mountain House Agricultural Societies, as well as presentation to AAAS of their 75th anniversary plaque.

Delegates were able to attend various sessions throughout the weekend on financial literacy, community resilience, volunteer recruitment, farmer market training, delegation, strategic planning and government relations. There were 30 exhibitors at the show to present their products and services to the delegates.

The company has awarded 32 prizes in marketing competitions where Ag Society submitted fair posters, fair books, website designs and social media advertisements for their events. Various Showcase acts were performed throughout the weekend where artists could be on our large or small stage for agricultural societies to see them perform.

The AAAS Farm Safety Show was part of the small showcase to be seen in hopes that agricultural societies will perform this show in their communities to help promote farm safety.
