Assam to host Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Mid-Year Executive Committee Meeting – ThePrint

New Delhi [India]Apr 06 (ANI): India has averted the rise of extreme poverty thanks to the food security program, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), according to the report of the International Monetary Fund.

Regional representatives from 53 Commonwealth countries and nine regions will attend the bi-annual APC executive committee meeting to be held at the Legislative Assembly of Assam.

Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla will inaugurate the event on April 9 in the presence of Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North East Region G Kishan Reddy.

Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Biswajit Daimary, who is also a member of the CPA’s executive committee, told ANI: “On behalf of the Lok Sabha, the state arm of the CPA Assam will host the CPA mid-year executive committee meeting on April 9-10.”

Daimary said the 8th CPA India Region Conference will also be held in Guwahati on April 11-12.

“There are 53 countries in the APC. We anticipate that 22-25 executive members will attend the meeting. To date, the total confirmed delegation consists of 48 executive and regional executive members. Followed by this program, the 8th India CPA regional conference will also be held in Guwahati on April 11-12. Both programs will be held in the Assam Legislative Assembly Hall,” he said.

The President said that Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla will inaugurate the APC mid-year executive committee meeting and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of DoNER G Kishan Reddy, AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State Rameswar Teli, Assam Governor’s Professor. Jagdish Mukhi will also participate in the inaugural program.

He added that all arrangements have been made for both events.

“For the first time in India, the Legislative Assembly of Assam is hosting the APC Mid-Year Executive Committee Meeting on behalf of India. Over 200 delegates including the Speaker, Deputy Speaker of all Vidhan Sabhas, the Leader of the Opposition, members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will attend the India region conference,” he added.

The CPC Executive Meeting usually meets twice a year and is made up of CPC officers and regional representatives from the nine CPC regions.
