Association Economie Solidaire launches webinars on building a cooperative economy

“Building a Solidarity Economy: The Fight for Democratic Rights, Economic Justice, and Self-Determination in Jackson, Mississippi,” is the title of a series of online conversations organized by the Solidarity Economy Association.

The online conversation series will feature radical solidarity economy organizations around the world.

The first event will take place on September 10 and will feature Cooperation Jackson, an emerging cooperative network firmly rooted in the struggle for Black liberation and self-determination. Its mission is to advance the development of economic democracy in Jackson, Mississippi, the poorest state in the United States, whose predominantly black population faces chronic unemployment and impoverishment.

Cooperative Jackson builds a solidarity economy anchored by a network of cooperatives and other types of worker-owned and democratically self-managed enterprises that are rooted in social movements and popular assemblies.

The first event is called ‘Conversations with Gamechangers: Solidarity Economy Strategies for a New and Better World’, registration here

As part of these webinars, the organizers will also speak with Aboriya Jin, who is part of the Kongra Star women’s movement in northern and eastern Syria (Rojava); Grassroots Liberation, a movement organized in the ghettos of Nairobi, Kenya; The Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Committee, which organizes landless Dalit farmers in the Punjab region of India, and Guerrilla Translation, which is building a new model of democratic cooperative economy that allows translators to support themselves while internationalizing the knowledge produced for release.

Events can be followed in multiple languages.
