IIT-Delhi, Jamia Milia, Indian Medical Association among 5,789 entities lose their FCRA license: The Tribune India

Several of Delhi’s best educational, social and cultural centers in addition to the country’s leading medical body are among 5,789 entities whose FCRA registration is deemed to have ceased on Saturday.
These entities have not requested the renewal of their FCRA license. In addition, the Union’s Home Office has also rejected renewal requests from 179 organizations, officials said.
According to the Foreign Contributions Law (Regulation) official website, among the organizations and entities whose registration under the FCRA has ceased or expired, there was IIT-Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia, Indian Medical Association , Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, India Habitat Center, Lady Shri Ram College for Women and Delhi College of Engineering.
The Indira Gandhi National Arts Center, Indian Institute of Public Administration, Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Foundation and Oxfam India were on the long list of the Union Home Office, which regulates the activities of NGOs and partners registered under the FCRA.
Registration under the law is deemed to have ended on Saturday, January 1, officials said.
FCRA registration is compulsory for all associations and NGOs to receive foreign funding.
There were 22,762 organizations registered by the FCRA as of Friday. On Saturday the number fell to 16,829. These are considered “living” organizations.
Officials said FCRA licenses for 18,778 organizations expire between September 29, 2020 and December 31, 2021.
Among them, up to 12,989 organizations have requested the renewal of the FCRA license between September 30, 2020 and December 31, 2021.
Since 5,789 organizations did not apply for FCRA license renewal, they were considered to have ceased to be registered organizations, an official said.
In addition to them, the renewal request of 179 organizations was also rejected by the Interior Ministry for various reasons.
Among the organizations whose registration with the FCRA has ceased were the Medical Council of India, the Emmanuel Hospital Association, which operates over a dozen hospitals in India, the Tubercolosis Association Of India, Vishwa Dharamayatan, Maharishi Ayurveda Pratishthan, the National Federation of Fishermen’s Cooperatives Ltd.
The Hamdard Education Society, Delhi School Of Social Work Society, Bhartiya Sanskriti Parishad, DAV College Trust and Management Society, India Islamic Cultural Center, Godrej Memorial Trust, The Delhi Public School Society, Nuclear Science Center in JNU, India Habitat Center and all L India Marwari Yuva Manch is also one of these entities.
