Indian Medical Association, IIT Delhi, Jamia Milia among the 6,000 entities whose FCRA license is deemed to have ceased

New Delhi, January 1 (PTI) IIT Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia, Indian Medical Association and Nehru Memorial Museum and Library are among nearly 6,000 entities whose FCRA registration is said to have ceased on Saturday.

These entities have not applied for the renewal of their FCRA licenses or the Union Home Office has rejected their requests, officials said.

According to the official website for the Foreign Contribution Act (Regulation), some organizations and entities whose registration under FCRA has ceased or expired include the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, Indian Institute Administration, Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Foundation, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi College of Engineering and Oxfam India.

Officials at the Union’s Home Office, which regulates the activities of NGOs and associates registered under the FCRA, said registration under the law is deemed to have ended on Saturday, January 1.

FCRA registration is compulsory for all associations and NGOs to receive foreign funding.

There were 22,762 NGOs registered by the FCRA as of Friday. On Saturday it fell to 16,829 as 5,933 NGOs ceased their activities.

Among the organizations whose registration with the FCRA has ceased were the Medical Council of India, the Emmanuel Hospital Association, which operates over a dozen hospitals in India, the Tubercolosis Association Of India, Vishwa Dharamayatan, Maharishi Ayurveda Pratishthan, the National Federation of Fishermen’s Cooperatives Ltd.

The Hamdard Education Society, Delhi School Of Social Work Society, Bhartiya Sanskriti Parishad, DAV College Trust and Management Society, India Islamic Cultural Center, Godrej Memorial Trust, The Delhi Public School Society, Nuclear Science Center in JNU, India Habitat Center, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi College of Engineering and All India Marwari Yuva Manch are also among these entities.
