The 29th Meeting of the Middle East Regional Council (RAME) of the International Union of Railways (UIC) was held in Amman, the capital of Jordan, under the chairmanship of Metin Akbaş, President and Deputy Managing Director of the Railway Administration of the Republic of Turkey (TCDD).

During the meeting, Metin Akbaş, who gave information on the evolution of the rail sector in our country over the past twenty years, drew attention to the change experienced with high-speed rail transport, which is has been widespread since 2009.

Akbaş gave information about completed and ongoing railway projects by TCDD and briefed the board members on the importance of renewable energy sources for sustainable railway development, construction of eco-friendly bridges environment and the improvement of pastures.

Pursuing its activities within the framework of the vision determined by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Management of the TCDD successfully represents our country on the international scene.

Representatives of railway administrations from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Israel and Iraq as well as the Jordanian transport minister attended the meeting.

The meeting, which was also attended by UIC Director General Françoise Davenne, began after speeches by TCDD Director General Metin Akbaş, Jordanian Transport Minister Wajeeh Azaizeh, UIC Director General Françoise Davenne, Deputy General Manager of Iranian Railways Hossein Ashoori and General Manager of Jordan Hejaz Railways. During the meeting, where the developments in the railway administrations of the countries of the region were evaluated, the RAME budget was also discussed.

Establishment of a “Load Working Group” to identify needs and develop cooperation between countries in the region, participation of RAME members in UIC working groups on the impact of climatic conditions on the railways, the activities carried out by the UIC RAME office in the first half of 2022, the future period planned under the RAME activities was discussed.

It was also decided that the next meeting will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates Railways Administration at the end of 2022.

In the closing speech of the meeting as President of RAME, he said that they were ready to share TCDD’s 166 years of knowledge and experience with our members for the development of brotherhood and friendship. between countries and the development of railways.

Metin Akbaş mentioned the importance of renewable energy sources for sustainable railway development.
In his speech, Akbaş briefed the board members on the works saying that they also attach importance to activities such as construction of eco-friendly ecological bridges and improvement of pastures during the railway constructions.

On the other hand, the general manager of TCDD, Metin Akbaş, conducted investigations on part of the Hejaz railway project implemented by Sultan Abdulhamid Han, in Amman. Akbaş, who also visited the museum where the railway objects used in the Hejaz Railways are exhibited, signed the memoirs.

Akbaş visited the construction site, which is being built by TIKA and planned as a museum and administrative building.
