NJSBA Executive Director to retire in July

Dr Lawrence S. Feinsod

Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, executive director of the New Jersey School Boards Association, announced last week that he will be retiring effective July 1, 2022. Feinsod, whose career in public education is in its 53se year, joined NJSBA in September 2012.

“On behalf of the thousands of school board members who have benefited from the services of the NJSBA over the past 10 years under the leadership of Dr. Feinsod, I say thank you,” said Irene LeFebvre, President of the NJSBA. “Larry brought a lifetime of educational experience to the NJSBA and never lost sight of the reality that every day is ‘all about the kids’. “

“I have worked with Larry as an officer for the past seven years, and I think what he has accomplished during his time here is just fantastic,” said Michael McClure, Past President of the NJSBA. “His motto has always been ‘good to excellent’, and he has taken the NJSBA a long way on this path. She’s also a great person to work with, always open to suggestions and not afraid of change. We wish him an excellent retirement. “

Feinsod is no stranger to running an organization through tough times – one of his first actions as executive director was to facilitate the Association’s efforts to help districts after Storm Sandy. Since March 2020, he has overseen the NJSBA’s response to the pandemic, including a hub to member training and online services.

Prior to joining the Association, he was Superintendent of Schools for the Cranford, Madison and Mount Arlington School Districts. From 2008-2012 he was Executive Superintendent of the Essex County Department of Education. He started his career as a specialist educator at Linden. In addition, he served for approximately 20 years on the board of directors of the Morris-Union Jointure Commission, including a term as chairman of the board.

In the near future, NJSBA President LeFebvre will form a search committee of executive directors to recommend his replacement.
