MADURAI: Urging Chief Minister MK Stalin to scrap the De-notified Community (DNC) certification, members of the De-notified Tribes Welfare Association submitted a petition to Collector S Aneesh Sekhar during the grievance meeting on Monday.

Speaking to TNIE, the Davamani Association Treasurer said that the state government issues DNC certificates for children in their community, while the Union government issues De-notified Tribes certificates ( TSD). “However, this dual certification takes us away from the reserve in education and government jobs. Therefore, the government of Tamil Nadu should now only issue us DNT certificates,” she said.

Davamani further stated that the government, through a GO dated June 30, 1979, changed the nomenclature of the community certificate from DNT to DNC. “Although several approaches have been made to the government to withdraw this GO, no action has been taken.

In 2019, a committee recommended that the government issue DNT certificates to students in the community. But, DNC certificates are still issued. The Union government had allocated 13 crores to conduct a DNT survey, but the state government has not even appointed a nodal officer for the survey till now. On the other hand, the previous government (AIADMK) approved an internal reservation of 9.5% for the Vanniyar community without conducting any investigation at all,” she claimed.
